The Story Behind Kraken Golf: How Marc Cordeira Forged a Brand That Disrupts Tradition

Forged Different: The Story of Kraken Golf
From Factory Roots to Fairway Rebels
Kraken Golf wasn’t born in a boardroom. It wasn’t sketched out on a whiteboard with market projections and investor decks. It was born in a single car garage — in the flicker of CNC sparks, the grind of steel, and a deep obsession with making the ordinary extraordinary.
My name is Marc Cordeira, and Kraken Golf is my rebellion. A rebellion against mass-produced golf gear. Against the cookie-cutter aesthetic of country club conservatism. Against playing it safe.
But to understand Kraken, you have to go back — to the machines, the metal, and the mindset.
From Code to Craft
I grew up in Acushnet, Massachusetts, the son of a steelworker who taught me the value of grit, discipline, and precision. He used to tell me, “Work with your head, not your hands.” So I did both.
I spent over two decades in the software world, building digital platforms for Fortune 500s by day. But by night, I was restless. I craved the tangible. The spark. The cut. The feel of creating something of my own and real.
In 2015, I bought a small drill press and converted it to a CNC mill after watching a few YouTube videos — what started as curiosity quickly spiraled into obsession. What came out of that garage wasn’t just metal. It was identity.
The Birth of Kraken
My first brand, NXT18Golf, started it all — custom belt buckles and accessories for players who wanted to stand out. But I knew it could go deeper. Bolder.
In 2018, Kraken Golf was born — not as a product line, but as a creative mission:
To craft heirloom-quality golf tools for players who value design, individuality, and a little bit of edge.
From day one, Kraken stood for rebellion. We didn’t chase mass appeal — we created limited-edition drops that sell out in minutes. We didn’t settle for enamel filled cast items from overseas — we milled divot tools from brass, copper, and steel, sculpted skulls, inlaid leather, and engraved battle cries like:
“Disrupt Tradition. Play Different.”
Tools with a Soul
At Kraken, every product is a piece of functional art. You can see that spirit in our:
- Crayon Divot Tools – CNC-machined metal shaped like crayons, full of color and confidence.
- Ball Markers – Copper, brass, stainless steel, personalized, meticulously designed with handmade elements like hand-hammered edges and high polished buffing.
- Fred Tool Holders – Leather golf gear holsters, cut and sewn by hand, often embossed with Kraken's mascot, Scully and other elements.
Every scratch, stamp, and patina tells a story. Because this isn’t just gear — it’s gear with legacy.
Not Just Accessories. Identity.
Today, Kraken Golf is more than a workshop — it’s a movement. A movement of collectors, creators, and players who believe the gear you carry should be as personal as the game you play.
We’ve been featured in Golf Digest, praised in collector circles, and recently spotlighted in the YouTube series Major Cut (Ep. 6) with Grant Horvat and the Bryan Brothers — where we delivered custom scissor divot tools, hammered markers, and hand-made leather holsters.
But the real reward? When a player pulls a marker out of their pocket and says, “This is a Kraken. I don’t go on the course without it.”
Built in Acushnet. Backed by Fire.
Today, I’m back in Acushnet, MA, with my wife Melissa and our three kids, running Kraken Golf from a growing putter studio filled with CNC machines, grinders, leather benches, and sketchpads.
Every product still passes through my hands. Every drop still begins as a spark. And every design still asks:
What if golf gear didn’t just perform… what if it told a story?

Final Words
Kraken Golf isn’t for everyone. It’s for the bold, the obsessive, the ones who mark their ball like it means something. We’re not here to blend in. We’re here to leave a mark — literally and figuratively.
Disrupt Tradition. Play Different.
